Zusammenfassung:This study aims to present a numerical model based on the finite volume method able to predict welding conditions and to evaluate the sensitivity of the geometric parameters of the double-ellipsoid model used as a heat source for the numerical model. Therefore, numerical simulation of the thermal history using the model and monitoring of temperature during welding GMAW of a plate of duplex stainless steel SAF 2205 were performed. The results of thermal cycles and temperature distributions confirmed the model’s ability to predict the thermal history of the plate. Thermal cycles calculated using different geometric parameters showed a low sensitivity of the model to these parameters, mainly, for predicting the cooling rates. These results lead to the conclusion that small errors in determination of these parameters would cause no damage in predicting of time dependent transformations, such as the sigma phase formation, very harmful for duplex steels.
