Special strengths in the section on respiratory diseases are the pages devoted to interstitial lung disease, pulmonary embolism, and sarcoid. The presentation of oncology is outstanding, particularly the review of chemotherapy; however, including definitions of the terms used in the discussion of cytogenetics in the section on histology would have been wise (histiocytic lymphoma is now usually called large-cell lymphoma). [...]in a laudable attempt to be current, the contributors sometimes fail to include older but eminently useful and important references. [...]this distinguished textbook of internal medicine once again gets high marks for a major job of writing, revision, and publishing.
