A 37-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of bilateral uveitis that was unresponsive to treatment.
She was in excellent health until six months earlier, when she began to experience "throbbing" right retro-orbital headaches that occurred daily and were followed one month later by progressive blurring of vision in the right eye. She discontinued the use of contact lenses. Three months before admission there was a severe reaction to poison ivy that responded to treatment with orally administered prednisone.
