According to the research published in international scientific journals, level of sickness absence is due not only to the health situation, but also the situation on the labor market. The aim of the article is to present changes in the sickness absence rate in Poland in the years 2005-2014 (the period of the statistics were available) and a Indicate the impact of the situation on the labor market to changes in the level of sickness absence . Theoretical background allowed to the research hypothesis That in Poland (similar to the results of the world), the unemployment rate is destimulant of sickness absence rate (the higher / lower the unemployment rate, the lower / higher level of absence). This hypothesis was verified. The rate of unemployment (especially long-term and in the group of women of reproductive age) is an important destimulant of sickness absence, Which indicates other than just health, motivation for presence or absence at work.
