After a brief analysis of the crisis affecting opera and its transformations throughout the twentieth century-particularly from the 1960s onwards-this article focuses on composer Georges Aperghis and on his opera Avis de tempête. The focus of the analysis lies in the radical fragmentary nature of its libretto (written in collaboration with musician-essayist Peter Szendy), and in the intertextual links present in it. In tum, a concise analysis is devoted to the types of intermediality which determine the use of electronics and the design of the staging.
