Superfluid helium: Caught speeding

In his seminal work on the two-fluid hydrodynamics of superfluid helium Lev Landau established a fundamental limit to the velocity of the superuid: the Landau critical velocity. A wire moving at constant speed through superfluid helium can considerably exceed the Landau critical velocity.
