Zusammenfassung: | This article analyzes the competitive dynamic of night schools in business and economics in the Metropolitan Region of Chile, using the theory of strategic groups. The research done was of a descriptive and transversal or transectional type, since it studies the competitive behavior of these Schools using public and institutional information for the year 2008. In the first stage a factorial analysis was applied in order to obtain the strategic dimensions (variables with which the universities compete), as well as a cluster analysis in order to categorize the universities into groups. Additionally, in order to analyze the performance of the strategic groups, a correlation analysis between the strategic decisions of universities and their performance indicators was used. The strategic dimensions (accreditation, investment and scope) that define the competitive behavior of universities were identified, and based on this four university groups were obtained that differ by the application of resources in each of these dimensions. Finally, it is concluded that the investment of resources in the strategic dimensions has an effect on the market participation; however, only advertising investment influenced the cost of the degrees. |
