Nakládání s vodami v evropsky významné lokalite Krkonose a jeho potencionální vliv na populace vranky obecné/Water-use in SCI Krkonose and its potential impact on population of the European Bullhead

Water management in the territory of Krkonose Natura 2000 site, where the bullhead Cottus gobio is one of target species, is focused on small hydropower plants, pumping water for snowmaking for ski resorts and water supply purposes. In the basin of Jizera, Labe and Úpa there are a total of 201 cases of water management. Those, in varying degrees, are causing a change of hydrological conditions and other characteristics of aquatic ecosystems. The current practice of river management and water management control is not conceptually grounded and the consequence is declining quality of water habitats. It is therefore necessary to set stricter rules which should be also clearer to investors. Setting legal process leading to the unification of administrative authoritiesapproach should result in the preparation of regulations of water use for the whole catchement area and to the revision of permits for water use. The key is to set appropriate values of minimum residual flow in individual profiles and to determine water consumption technology including its possible maximum offtake.
