Zusammenfassung:Healthcare associated bloodstream infections (BSI) may occur following the placement of central or peripheral lines for patient care. Our healthcare system identified a trend in BSIs related to patient line manipulation. Patient line manipulation may be defined a patient self-injecting controlled or illegal substances through their venous access devices. During fiscal year 2015, one of the five hospitals within this health system reported 16 BSIs, 8 of those related to patient line manipulation.
