Zusammenfassung:Competitive intelligence has been recognized as a strategic management tool and a field in rapid growth and has become an important technique for achieving competitive advantage in organizations. The discussion about which elements contribute to its construction broadens the understanding of managers on the mechanisms which enable the effective application of competitive intelligence in different organizational environments. The objective of this study is to present an analysis of the concept of competitive intelligence and its application in the Brazilian context, to establish the relationship between information management, knowledge management and building organizational memory as mechanisms that contribute significantly to competitive intelligence and decision making in the organizational environment. It constitutes a qualitative research, exploratory, using bibliographical research as methodological procedure to collect data on the themes: competitive intelligence, management of information and knowledge, information flows and organizational memory. Based on the analysis of concepts and relations between them, it is concluded that competitive intelligence should be able not only to get information but also to analyze them correctly and to evaluate which ones are relevant to strategic decisions of the organization. The knowledge construction stage based on the management of information flows and knowledge previously constructed by the organization can be effective differential in the intelligent decision making.
