Zusammenfassung:This article seeks to analyze the level of sustainability of a tannery located in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Furthermore, the paper proposes to identify sustainable actions taken by the tannery and environmental programmes in which the organization is engaged. The study consists of a survey whose approach is qualitative. This is a survey that ranks over goals in descriptive and qualitative approach. As regards the proceedings, it is a case study. The tools used for data collecting were questionnaires and semi-structured interviews applied to personnel responsible for the productive sector and the environment/sustainability. The organization has policies for cleaner production, reverse logistics and is involved in environmental projects and programmes, besides trying to meet some certifications. The degree of sustainability of the tannery rated was considered good, despite having processes that must be revised to eliminate and/or mitigate negative points related to the production process. We conclude that it is possible to reduce the negative impacts generated to society as soon as organizations employ a system of effective environmental management and invest in sustainable and conscious actions.
