TÜRKIYE'DE GENÇLIK SOSYOLOJISI ÇALISMALARI/YOUTH SOCIOLOGY STUDIES IN TURKEY

In this article, it is aimed to research, identify, determine the problems of the youth in Turkey in terms of sociological analysis which should have a mission of establishing a projection to the future. Youth sociology studies in the world and in Turkey have begun after the Second World War and gained an intense momentum with the '68 youth movement. In fact, youth has been perceived as a myth since the time of Young Turks who were entrusted to prevent Ottoman Empire from collapsing. A youth group that was built by the government was expected to save the state. This trajectory can be observed in Turkey's social history and youth studies. The thematic changes in the research areas of sociology in Turkey can also be seen in the youth sociology studies. The research topics can differentiate according to the sociological context and social changes. The research topics like rural, urban, slum, university youth and youth movements have experienced a transformation into researches of youth identities. The majority of the youth studies in Turkey have been made especially on university youth. However, the global and local context determines the research areas.
