Remembering David Parker

There are clear resonances here with John Eakin's seminal work on relational selves in life narrative, which David as life writing scholar was in close conversation with, and kept encouraging his students to explore.\n David wrote searching critiques of what he saw as reductive ethical positions in philosophy and literary scholarship, not least anti-humanist postmodernism. During these years his activities included Founder and Inaugural Chair of the Chinese Universities Shakespeare Festival; Inaugural Director of The Research Centre for Human Values at his university; Executive Director of the Man Asia Literary Prize; founding member of the IABA and convenor of the IABA conference in Hong Kong in 2004; and Founding Fellow and Executive Director of the Hong Kong Academy of the Humanities.
