Phaeochromocytoma and thrombotic microangiopathy: favourable outcome despite advanced renal failure

An MRI scan of the abdomen was performed for diffuse abdominal pain and showed a 4 cm tumour in the left adrenal gland ( figure 1A ). [...]a working diagnosis of phaeochromocytoma with malignant hypertension and thrombotic microangiopathy was made, and immunosuppressive therapy was discontinued. Because of the clinical response to plasmaphaeresis, we think that phaeochromocytoma complicated by malignant hypertension coexisting with TTP is a likely diagnosis in this case.
