After obtaining further diplomas in dairying and dairy husbandry, he spent four years as an experimental officer with the Animal Breeding Research Organisation before being appointed a lecturer in animal husbandry at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC). [...]as a newly appointed lecturer, he had the task of building a milking parlour and farrowing accommodation, creating a self-feed silage facility and a covered livestock yard in the storage barn, purchasing Friesian cows to establish the milking herd, sheep to establish the breeding flock and sows for a new pig herd, and changing the crops grown to meet the requirement of livestock.
