Non-traumatic Alternaria keratomycosis in a rigid gas-permeable contact lens patient

Alternaria contaminates and grows vigorously on CL in vitro but has been reported only twice to involve soft contact lenses. 1 2 Daily RGP wear was linked to fungal keratitis in two cases, but neither cultured Alternaria. 3 4 Our case is the first to describe RGP-related Alternaria keratitis, to our knowledge. Besides the involvement of a four-decade-old, likely unrelated PKP graft, no trauma or risk factors other than CL wear were present.
