Remaining a general surgeon throughout, he was also a tutor and lecturer in surgery at the University of Sheffield, Over the years he became external examiner in surgery at the universities of Edinburgh, Liverpool, Baghdad, Mosul, and Accra and at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
