Zusammenfassung:The stories they share bring this reality from the theoretical realm to the personal and underscore Butler's conviction that the interaction needed to create genuine healing and transformation must go beyond information: it must engage participants on multiple intellectual and emotional levels, even at the risk of exposing them to painful, even wrenching, memories and ideas. Some of the issues the women discuss are unique to their particular group, such as the indigenous people's loss of land and the removal of children from their families for schooling; other issues, such as lack of role models, internalized oppression, and pressures to attain unrealistic standards of beauty, touch most of the women, whatever their ethnic/racial identity.
