Becoming Aware: A Dialogical Approach to Consciousness

The consciousness of dialogue takes place in the sphere of the "interhuman" in which one becomes aware of the other's uniqueness through "inclusion"- concretely imagining what the other is thinking, feeling, and willing while remaining on one's own side of the dialogue. It rests on the understanding of the unconscious as the wholeness of the person underlying both the psychic and the physical. The author explores the "partnership of existence": meeting others and holding one's ground; dialogue, awareness, and personal wholeness; address and response.
