Zusammenfassung:This paper will analyze the purely performative (theatrical) character of the Commedia dell'arte, which laid the foundations of modern theatre. To do this, I will focus on two authors who are key figures both for theatrical theory and for the European scene. On the one hand, Carlo Gozzi, who plays a particularly significant role in the theatre scene of the eighteenth century in Italy because of the position that he adopted in relation to the Goldoni's reform. On the other hand, Vsevolod Meyerhold, who in the con- text of the twentieth century will revolutionize the theatre scene of his time and will set a turning point in acting theory.
