Current trend of antibiotic sensitivity of Salmonella typhi and other Salmonellae in Mumbai: A 5 years study

With the emergence of multidrug-resistant Salmonella enterica serovar typhi in 1980s and 1990s, Ciprofloxacin became the drug of choice for the treatment of enteric fever. Isolates of Salmonella species recovered from blood of the patients admitted in a tertiary care hospital, Mumbai from 2009 to 2013 were identified and subjected to antibiotic susceptibility testing by modified Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion test referring Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines.
