Zusammenfassung:Reviews the book, APA Handbook of Men and Masculinities edited by Y. Joel Wong and Stephen R. Wester (see record 2014-41535-000). Interest has recently turned to within person and across-situation variability in individuals’ masculinity performances instead of continuing to investigate between-person differences in “variables” such as adherence to an ideology. Situations or the contexts direct gendered performances, resulting in men and women who are first responders similarly doing masculinity. Nascent interest in the intersectionality among the social forces that produce distinctive identities and, in turn, masculinity performances is also emerging in the field. Wong and Wester’s APA Handbook of Men and Masculinities is an invaluable touchstone on the current state of these matters. The Handbook was crafted to offer readers a spectrum on the theoretical perspectives in the field rather than one catechism and to hopefully advance the boundaries of scholarship within the psychology of men and masculinities. The intended audience includes both students and professionals, whether in clinical settings, public policy, or academic research communities.
