Zusammenfassung: | The objective of the MQM, a party of Muhajirs, Urdu-speaking immigrants of Indian origin, who live mainly in Sindh (the southern province of Pakistan) and intend to divide it forcibly among themselves and the native Sindhis, has put it on a collision course not only with the Sindhis but with the state of Pakistan. The fragmentation of the former federation of Yugoslavia suggests that any forcible change in the internal boundaries of a state is as dangerous to regional and world peace as the violent change of borders between independent states. The division of Sindh could be a prelude to the disintegration of Pakistan, which could set off chain reactions affecting south and south-west Asia. The stability of this region is indispensable to international security. In order to maintain regional stability, and international order, in their own enlightened interests, the neighbouring states, such as India and Iran and other influential members of the international community, especially the USA, the UK and the EU, should help Pakistan in preserving its territorial integrity. |
