An overview of the Romanian organic food sector

The Romanian farming sector has embraced the organic trend and figures in this field of activity show a steady increase in the interest for it, the total area of certified organic land doubled its size from 2006 to 2013 and the number of economic agents increased five times. While many stakeholders sustain the great advantages and potential for Romania's development as a source of organic food products, economic agents are lagging behind, the vast majority involved in the production sector and only a few in the processing or export-import activities.
