Zusammenfassung: | In this paper, we describe research carried out simultaneously in the areas of Spanish and English language with fifth year students from the Jaume I «El Conqueridor» state primary school in Catarroja, Valencia. The aim of the study was to improve expository writing in Spanish and English. To meet this aim, we designed two teaching sequences (TS)--one in Spanish/Catalan and one in English. There was a greater emphasis on grammatical aspects in the English TS, whilst the focus was mainly on textual components in the Spanish/Catalan TS. On the basis of the work with these TS, we analysed the positive transfer of knowledge from one language to the other. The final activity consisted in re-writing the initial texts to then observe how students had transferred knowledge acquired in the Spanish TS to their texts in English. |
