Structural Functions of the Twelve-Tone Row in René Leibowitz's "Troika pièces pour piano op. 19"

Recent research has mainly dealt with the aesthetic and philosophical aspects of René Leibowitz's understanding of music and the complexity of his personality, while the compositional output of this versatile musician, consisting of 93 cataloged twelve-tone works in almost all musical genres, still awaits thorough analysis. The present investigation of the "Trois pièces pour piano," op. 19 aims to demonstrate that after the novel Opus 16 Leibowitz continued experimenting in a minor work with the possibilities of serial segmentation and the structural use of the fragmented twelve-tone row.
