Possible mechanisms of multidirectional oil impacts on seed germination

The effect of different oil concentrations in soil on the germination of wheat seeds has been studied. Zusammenfassung:The effect of different oil concentrations in soil on the germination of wheat seeds has been studied. It has been shown that the biomass and length of both roots and shoots of the seedlings increase at the oil concentration of 3 and 6 g/kg of soil, which is, probably, due to the additional nitrogen nutrition of plants. It has been registered that oil has a negative effect on seed germination when its concentration is 9 g/kg and higher, which seems to be associated with the formation of a hydrophobic film on seeds and roots, impairing their gas and water exchange.
