Zusammenfassung:One cornerstone to design strategies that reverse the natural resources deterioration is to have consistent and updated environmental information, particularly on complex and socioeconomic important ecosystems such as the coastal lagoons. The aim of this review was to identify and classify specialized literature on the lagoon ecosystems of Tabasco, Mexico, and thus to analyze the research trends that support the state management of its coastal resources. Using a bibliometric analysis and a multicriteria description of the literature, it was found that scientific papers and grade theses are the prevailing publications and both have focused primarily to register, through disciplinary diagnosis, the deterioration of economically important species and lagoon ecosystems due to impacts from human activities. Also, that published works remain punctual and sporadic, causing a scientific production spatially and thematically heterogeneous; information gaps involve both lagoon systems and research topics, as well as interdisciplinary academic approaches. The results help describe the characteristics of existing scientific knowledge on the coastal lagoons of Tabasco, and identified opportunities that, in the case of being dealt by systematic and publishable scientific research, will help form a baseline for the sustainable management of these Tabasco ecosystems.
