My Favourite Tracks - Meine allerliebsten Lieder: Auswertung und Analyse von persönlichen Bestenlisten einer Würzburger Musiktalkshow

From 2005 to the beginning of 2014, the music academic Dennis Schütze organised and moderated a monthly talk show in the winter months in his hometown of Würzburg. In each show a prominent person from the regional culture scene was introduced in some special way. In each of the total of 52 full-evening programmes, ten favourite music tracks chosen by the guest, were heard as playback and between each track, in front of a live audience, the moderator spoke with his guest about his/her life. It was clear to all the guests that the choices they made for their Favourite Tracks would be publicly heard and direct connections established to their person. For this reason most of the songs chosen were biographically, symbolically, as well as life and work-related. In the analysis of the play lists, the guest's year of birth, age, profession, political and artistic leanings were viewed in relation to the production year of the track, type of medium (record, CD, MP3, video, live), date and venue of event. It was examined as to what extent patterns in the choices could be detected.
