Zusammenfassung:This paper presents a discussion of the actions the State has taken through the local government and the police to reduce insecurity in the city of San Jose. First, it is analyzed the local government's position, the actions and discourses that mediate the issue of security in the city in the form of advertising, the website of the Municipality of San José, the facebook page of "San José Public Safety", the website of the Public Safety Direction and the Municipal Police, as well as some newspaper articles. The paper then problematizes the privatization of public spaces, the marketing of security, and the creation of a city for competition and criminalization towards certain groups (street vendors, young people, street population). Finally, it is suggested the need to build inclusive urban spaces.
