Zusammenfassung: | Reviews the book, Cognitive Analytic Therapy and Borderline Personality Disorder: The Model and the Method by Anthony Ryle (see record 1997-36815-000). Ryle, introduces the readers to his unique and creative techniques for intervening with persons suffering from borderline personality disorder. He also introduces the reader to an innovative reformulation of the underlying dynamics of such patients. He titles his therapeutic model, Cognitive-Analytic Therapy (CAT), which is, most simply, an integration of aspects of psychoanalytic techniques with cognitive behavioral techniques. He particularly emphasizes the therapeutic relationship in the course of treatment by teaching the patient self-reflection skills and by avoiding collusive responses from the therapist. It offers the psychodynamic therapist a series of structured procedures for directly educating the patient via contributions from cognitive-behavioral treatments. The structure and organization of the book seems suitable not only for mental health providers, but also for students and other persons learning about the assessment and interventions of persons with borderline personality disorder.
