Evaluation of a Change to Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection Measurement

The National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) utilizes urinary catheter (UC) days (UCD) as the denominator for catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) surveillance. Discontinuing the UC is a common intervention, resulting in a decrease in UCD. This may cause a misrepresented elevated CAU...

Zusammenfassung:The National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) utilizes urinary catheter (UC) days (UCD) as the denominator for catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) surveillance. Discontinuing the UC is a common intervention, resulting in a decrease in UCD. This may cause a misrepresented elevated CAUTI rate and Standardized Infection Ratio when compared to past data. The objective of this study was to evaluate an alternative measurement method.
