When Boyers bought out the first issue of Salmagundi in the fall of 1965 he was 23 and had just taken a leave from the PhD program at New York University. The little magazine was some of the time compelling and adventurous beyond anything that might have been expected of large-circulation periodicals with impressive budgets. To dream of starting one's own little magazine was to entertain the thought that something vital might be done. Here, Moyers talks about the history of Salmagundi.
