La catedral como faro: acercamiento etnografico a la Catedral de Manizales a traves de un boceto de Luis Guillermo Vallejo

The article explores the potential for ethnographic analysis of the metaphor of the cathedral as beacon, suggested by the sketch of the Cathedral of Manizales by artist Luis Guillermo Vallejo. In order to explain the metaphor, we argue that the verticalspace understood as a particular outer nishing used in some urban spaces contributes to the organization of mental images of the city. In this sense, the metaphor of the beacon, far from being arbitrary, provides insight into the meaning of the experience of urban space in this city. Furthermore, the sketch representing the cathedral makes evident the work of arts capacity to integrate society.
