Zusammenfassung:This paper presents an introduction to the special section by focusing on the current status and future direction of clinical behavior analysis (CBA). The idea for the papers presented in this special section grew out of a panel discussion that one of us (D.G.) arranged under the title ‘Current Status and Future Direction of Clinical Behavior Analysis’ at the 24th annual meeting of the Association for Behavior Analysis (ABA) in 1998. An informal presentation of the ideas that now have been formalized led to an animated dialogue with Association for Behavior Analysis (ABA) members. The following papers were written in a spirit of intellectual honesty, highlighting both the strengths and weaknesses of CBA. It is hoped that the papers will not only stimulate debate among readers but also provide guidance for needed empirical work, which are considered to be vital to the future development and health of CBA.
