Zusammenfassung:Highlights * During the OPK assay pilus-expressing pneumococci are selectively killed by RrgB321 antisera. * In the OPK assay no switch towards the pilus non-expressing phenotype was observed. * Mice immunized with RrgB321 are protected against challenge with either the H or L pilus-expressing populations. * Immunization with RrgB321 can be effective to protect against the disease caused by all pilus islet-1 positive isolates.
