Zusammenfassung: | In 2012, the labor and delivery unit experienced a statistically significant increase in surgical site infections following caesarean section compared to the prior three years (2009-2011). The increase was significant overall (24/897 vs. 42/2,794 p=0.02) and for deep and organ/space infections (8/897 vs. 7/2,794, p=0.01). A case control study revealed body mass indices (BMI) >30 (2.64 (95%CI 1.06, 6.59), p=0.03) and any diabetes (2.45 (95%CI 1.07, 5.63), p=0.03) to be independent risk factors for infection. |
