Addresses the popular music phenomenon known as the "Love Parade," a parade-like mass party held annually in Berlin, Germany since 1989 by the devotees of techno music whose latest gathering in July 1997 attracted about a half million fans. Suggests that while on the surface this activity would not merit musicological notice, it is worth looking at as an artistic phenomenon as a discourse in its own right which organizes sounds in a representational and participational system.
