Zusammenfassung: | The potential of political protests to change settled political systems, or at least to cause a change in government, has prompted the discussion of the "ballot box-street" dyad in democratic theory. Initially, government change by way of protest, especially in the experience of the Orange Revolution, was presented as an alternative in authoritarian regimes, where government change is institutionally impossible. However, over time it has been seen that political protests were also used against legitimate democratic governments. The Arab Spring experience in Egypt was deadlocked through similar methods and parties are using similar methods in Ukraine. As the similar protests occur in regionally rising countries, the relationship between political protest behavior and the change in political structure needs to be evaluated. Within this framework, the study analyzes the mentioned relationship by using the data of protests in Azerbaijan between the end of 2010 and the beginning of 2013 in light of Arab Spring. |
