Zusammenfassung: | Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureas (MRSA) has repeatedly been shown to increase length of stay, morbidity and mortality. Excess costs associated with MRSA infections are estimated to be $28,000 to $35,000. In December of 2007 we instituted a program of universal MRSA screening of all patients admitted to our 561 bed tertiary care medical center with 167 designated Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds using the Cepheid GeneXpert rapid PCR active surveillance for MRSA. |
