Zusammenfassung:Reviews the book, Exploring Three Approaches to Psychotherapy by Leslie S. Greenberg, Nancy McWilliams, and Amy Wenzel (see record 2013-09816-000). Three Approaches to Psychotherapy (Shostrom, 1965), aka the “Gloria tapes,” starring “Gloria,” has been a longtime standard for demystifying what takes place in the inner sanctum of the therapy session. By demonstrating three types of therapy from icons Carl Rogers, Albert Ellis, and Gestalt therapy founder Fritz Perls, the Gloria tapes pioneered attempts to offer a rare look into the therapy hour. However, even before Shostrom’s 1965 masterpiece, Rogers put into print actual transcribed therapy sessions in his seminal work On Becoming a Person (Rogers, 1961). In this book, the authors provide a follow-up to two training videos produced by the American Psychological Association (2011, 2012; see also Knight, 2011, and Swope, 2012, for PsycCRITIQUES reviews of the videos). In the tradition of the Gloria tapes, the videos demonstrated the application of three types of therapy—emotion-focused, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioral—to the issues presented by a female client (Chi Chi) and a male client (Kevin). The book is designed to be used as a companion to the videos, providing sets of questions for classroom use before and after a video is viewed.
