SUSTENTABILIDADE EM ASSENTAMENTOS RURAIS: UM ESTUDO NA REGIÃO DE ANDRADINA-SP/SUSTAINABILITY IN RURAL SETTLEMENTS: A STUDY ON THE REGION OF ANDRADINA SP BRAZIL

Sustainability in five rural settlements in the region of Andradina SP Brazil is analyzed. Settlements received the benefits of agricultural reform at the federal and state levels in the state of São Paulo. The sustainability of rural settlements is highly important since the government, mainly the federal government, has provided resources in several projects to improve the life quality of the farmers. Field research involved settled populations in five federal settlements (INCRA) in the municipalities of Andradina, Castilho and Murutinga do Sul. Data were collected by interviews featuring a list of variables on social, economical, environmental aspects and social capital for measuring sustainability. Data showed that as a rule the level of development improved within the five settlements. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
