Zusammenfassung: | This paper explores the form, meaning, and context of the Foley Food Mill, a kitchen tool first produced in the United States in the 1930s. The method of analysis follows the observation-deduction-speculation model developed by Professor Jules Prown at Yale University. The form and function of the mill leads to an association of its use with maternal nurturing behaviors. The mill is then examined in the context of child-rearing literature and baby foods advertisements in the United States during the 1930s. |
