Zusammenfassung: | Parotti shares his experience with his wife as volunteers at the Friends of the Library Bookstore in Silver City NM. After joining the board of the Silver City Public Library and agreeing to publish the quarterly newsletter, they also agreed to help out for a couple of hours each week at the Library Bookstore, the terminal point for all library discards that could not be received into the collection. At some time in the past the town fathers-foreseeing, perhaps, that proceeds from a store would help to reduce tax expenditures on the library-had made available to the Friends one half of a refurbished war-surplus army barracks situated in a centrally located town maintenance yard. He says their six years of managing the bookstore provided them with something like an endless treasure hunt. |
