Synthesis of 11C-labelled alkyl halides with high specific radioactivity

[...]alkyl halides with longer alkyl chains prepared from Grignard reagents and [11C]carbon dioxide, e.g. [1-11C]ethyl iodide, [1-11C]propyl iodide, [1-11C]isopropyl iodide and [1-11C]butyl iodide, have only been used to a limited extent and are typically obtained with moderate specific radioactivity. (iv, v, vi, vii, viii) The need for high specific radioactivity of 11C-labelled tracers has been an incentive to explore new reaction routes to higher 11C-labelled alkyl halides and thus enable the synthesis of tracers with different characteristics.
