Relationship between serotonin-1A binding and HPA axis in subjects with major depression and healthy controls

Preclinical evidence of tonic inhibition of 5HT1A expression by excessive glucocorticoid receptor stimulation, particularly in the hippocampus, suggests a link between the serotonergic system and HPA axis hyperactivity in the pathophysiology of depression. Post-hoc analyses assessed binding in secon...

Zusammenfassung:Preclinical evidence of tonic inhibition of 5HT1A expression by excessive glucocorticoid receptor stimulation, particularly in the hippocampus, suggests a link between the serotonergic system and HPA axis hyperactivity in the pathophysiology of depression. Post-hoc analyses assessed binding in secondary ROIs in anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), anterior insula (AI), and posterior cingulate (PC).
