Zusammenfassung:Social representation, including professional identity, embodying the historical process and reveal the context and the prevailing social determinations. Cities that are distant from the capitalist world both central and locally are called periphery of the periphery of the capital. Several cities, in this situation, have universities that offer a degree in Executive Assistance. Using Amap as a reference, this work aims to understand the identity of the Executive Secretary (SE) and the social determinants of the profession in the periphery of the periphery of the capital. Empirical information was obtained through semi-structured interviews with five SE engaged in the profession for at least one year. The interviews were transcribed and then analyzed highlighting the discourses related to professional recognition, appreciation, social awareness, labor market and identity. Reports indicated low employability, lack of valuation and recognition of graduated professional. The ignorance of the profession is pointed as a reason for the SE professionals perform technical functions. On the other hand, the market does not require a university degree for positions whose duties are inherent to SE. These difficulties affect satisfaction, motivation, self-image and professional remuneration. Absence of large companies and cultural aspects are highlighted as key factors for the problems. The prospects for change permeate the organization in unions, associations and councils for the defense of the rights of SE. The descriptions of the duties of the SE by respondents corresponded to the recommendations of legislation but professionals indicated management and to be an executive as a claim of functional assignment.
