Zusammenfassung:Alternaria extract induces necrosis of epithelial cells and release of HMGB1 and IL-18 by activating a novel cSrc-cathepsin K signaling pathway. Because IL-18 can boost allergic sensitization and allergic airway inflammation, we suggest that this "danger signaling pathway" mediates the proinflamatory and proallergic effects of Alternaria in asthma and allergic diseases.
