The Medieval Deposit from the Northeast Gateway at the Palace of Nestor

In 1958 and 1959 Marion Rawson explored medieval remains in the area of the Northeast Gateway in the Early Mycenaean fortifications at the Palace of Nestor. A substantial number of cooking pots, glass vessels, tiles, a small amount of glazed wares, and a few miscellaneous objects dating to the late 12th or early 13th century were associated with a small, poorly preserved building that had a paved floor and was once covered by a tile roof. The authors fully publish the finds here, while also considering their date and significance in light of a review of medieval patterns of settlement in the southwestern Peloponnese. Chemical analyses of glazes and colorants are presented in an appendix.
