Zusammenfassung:This article presents a comparison of rejectees with and without preinduction screening information. The Louisville Mental Hygiene Clinic for the past nineteen months has acted as a coordinator for the screening of the names of 24,823 registrants from nineteen Local Boards through the files of the public and private agencies in Louisville and Jefferson County, Kentucky, for evidences of mental, emotional, and constitutional unfitness for service. The Social Service Exchange not only checked these names through their own files, but also utilized street files and city directories when necessary. These clearings were then sent to the Family Service Organization where a group of social workers and volunteers checked the records in the various service agencies for pertinent social data. The Mental Hygiene Clinic cleared through the files of the Clinic, the General Hospital including the psychiatric wards and clinics, the local State Hospital, and private sanitaria. The private general hospitals were not included since little information of a social or psychiatric nature was obtained following a sampling of their records. Copies of report forms sent to selective service headquarters were forwarded by them to the Local Boards with instructions to forward same to the Induction Board with the registrant’s physical examination.
